Jesus taught us to love even those who persecute us. How is that possible? It must be intentional. The person you marry may sometimes feel like an enemy — misunderstandings, disappointments, and unmet expectations will happen. If we are commanded to love our enemies, how much more should we love our spouse?
If you are married, be grateful to God for your spouse. Be thankful. Be supportive. Appreciate one another daily.
A good marriage requires intentional effort from both partners — being quick to forgive, choosing kindness, and taking responsibility for caring for one another even during difficult seasons. When one partner is weak, the other should not complain but lift him or her up in prayer.
This does not mean you should marry someone unsuitable, nor does it suggest that all marriages are identical. Every marriage has its unique journey.
In summary, love is a debt. You owe everyone love. This is the kind of love Jesus showed us.
A good marriage is hard work — but it is work worth doing.
